A study on the effects of social capital on employment status among women with disabilities : focusing on the comparison with men with disabilities
Lee Young-Mi

Abstract
This study examines levels of social capital and determining factors of employment among women and men with disabilities. Data are from 4,284 individuals from the Panel Study Survey of Employment for the Disabled in 2009 and analytic procedure included chi-square analysis, t-test and binary logistic regression analyses.
Results from analysis based on the total sample indicated that those participants with a spouse, have certificates, better health condition, lower disability levels, lower education, and more social capital were more likely to be employed. When women and men are compared, social capital was found to be an important determinant of employment for women with disabilities; while having a spouse increased the likelihood of employment for men with disabilities.
Based on these results, this study suggests vocational rehabilitation policy that amplifies social capital. Efforts to develop employment services and programs in accordance with the characteristics of women with disabilities are required.
